Workforce & Transportation Tourism Symposium

This symposium brings together private and public sector leaders to discuss how to support the growth and development of the Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism sector, a major employer in New Jersey’s economy. Growth of this sector -- both through attracting new businesses and enabling existing businesses to expand -- requires providing a skilled workforce, trained to meet the needs of employers.

The NJTPA and the NJRHT Talent Network want to engage regional partners in a discussion on improving the process of preparing jobseekers with the skills needed to obtain well-paying jobs associated with tourism. Career pathways, training in both “soft” and occupation-specific skills, apprenticeships and worker re-entry programs are examples of proven workforce development strategies for employers.

The event will be divided into three parts. We will begin with a plenary session focused on background context and an opening panel to set the stage for breakout discussions. The second part of the event will consist of breakout sessions focused on three topics: niche markets, large destinations, and natural/eco-tourism. The third portion will consist of an exhibit/expo and meeting session to foster partnerships for future endeavors.
