Opioids in Our Community: Perspectives for Parents
Wednesday, February 3, 2021, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

in collaboration with

Rhode Island Student Assistance Services (RISAS)
and the Rhode Island Department of
Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals (BHDDH)

This virtual event is a continuation of our ongoing Opioids in Our Community initiative to provide families and educators with resources, information and community connections to address the challenge of substance use. The goal of this event, Perspectives for Parents, is to provide parents/guardians with insight from local experts on the issue, as well as to share information about resources like Rhode Island PBS LearningMedia, so parents can effectively engage their children around substance use awareness and prevention. This event is geared towards creating a safe and inclusive space for parents to share their concerns, validate their own experiences, and to learn to spot warning signs in their children.

A special panel of educators, counselors and healthcare experts
will lead the presentation:

  • Christine Bandoni, RISAS Student Assitance Counselor, Mt. Hope High School
  • Ines Garcia, Recovery Coach, East Bay Community Action programs, East Bay Recovery Center
  • Kathryn Hamel, RISAS Student Assistance Counselor, Barrington Middle School
  • Heidi Peterson, MD, Family Medicine, HealthFirst Family Care Center

The event will be held on the Zoom Webinar platform--link to be provided in registration confirmation email. During the event, your comments and questions are welcome in a live interactive chat.

This informative event is free and rated PG-13*  -- Parental discretion is advised.

Refreshment certificates from the Newport Restaurant Group will be provided to attendees who have registered with a valid email address only -- limited supply -- distributed in order of registration.
