Bike Van Buren XXVII

You spoke...we listened!

Riders in this years Bike Van Buren will be pleasantly surprised by the changes we've made!

We've turned this event inside out and upside down to make changes that are sure to please everyone!

We've incorporated Adult and Child (under 14) registration fees as well as 1-day and 2-day options. We have also offered our commemerative T-shirt as a separate purchase option. The biggest change is the alternative route options. Saturday will have 4 route options....70 m., 34 m., 29 m. and 18 m. Sunday will have 3 options...46m., 32 m., and 24 m. You can pick and choose, mix & match...whatever you feel comfortable doing with your level of bicycling expereince. SAG & technical support, provided by Bickels Cycling and Fitness, will be in full force on all of the route options both days. They will also provide free bottled water, first aid and assistance as needed. (Please bring your cell phone to insure quick service if needed.)

We are sure our new lunch options will be the hit of the event! You will have the opportunity to pre-pay for your lunch during registration. On Saturday, the Amish will be serving an Old-Fashioned BBQ picnic lunch at the Lebanon Schoolhouse from 11am-2pm. They will be serving charcoal BBQ hamburgers, hotdogs and brats, along with homemade potato salad and baked beans as well as delicious homemade desserts! Gatorade, tea and bottled water will be the drinks offered. On Sunday, Farmington will be the designated lunch stop. The specific menu is still being determined but we promise it'll be delicious!

We have also re-organized and "stepped-up" our hospitality stops. Our communities will be welcoming our riders with new varieties and options of refreshments. We will be coordinating the types of snacks that are offered at each stop to help assure that our rest stops are not providing the same snack or beverage. No longer will you be asked for a "Free Will Donation"...your ride registration will be all-inclusive and everything will be included in your one-time registration fee.

All of the routes will lead you through some of the most beautiful countryside in Iowa. You'll pedal your way across a portion of the Historic Hills Scenic Byway, taking in historic river Villages dating back to the 1840's, you'll enjoy seeing the Amish communities tending their gardens or enjoy seeing the Amish children walk to their neighbors for a day of play. Our Mennonite communities will be busy with activity as you visit the Milton Creamery and the Dutchman's Store in Cantril.

Participants will be sharing the roadways with vehicular traffic. Although the majority of the route is on sparsely traveled paved county roads there are sections that include travel on state highways. For your own safety, helmets are strongly encouraged, but not required.

Registration/Check-in will be held at the Keosauqua City Park. Saturday Aug. 17: 7:00am-10:00am and Sunday August 18: 7:30am - 9:00am

**All riders (under 18 will require parent/guardian signature) will be required to sign a release of liability waiver.

ANYONE UNDER 18 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT OR GUARDIAN.

DO NOT FORGET TO WEAR YOUR BIKE HELMETS!!!  THEY SAVE LIVES AND HELP AVOID SERIOUS INJURIES.
