Adventure Camp 2020
It is with sadness that we must announce the closure of Adventure Camp (Kids Camp) on the Northwest District. After much prayer and consideration, we realized that we could not adhere to the CDC and other governmental guidelines and recommendations and be able to function in the manner in which we hoped. Our team felt we could not guarantee the safety of all involved. Three major issues arose from our lengthy conversation:
1. Social distancing which would hamper our ability to have meals, chapel and large events.
2. The mixing of a variety of regions in one central location, with some regions in Phase 3 and some in Phase 4, etc.
3. We were determined to take temperatures upon arrival, in the mornings and evenings of each day but the question arose “What happens if a child has a fever?” In past years, we have had several kids with fevers for a variety of reasons. We thought we probably would have to close the camp just to insure everyone’s safety.
.
Given these and other factors, we have determined not to have camp this year. Families that have registered their children will receive a complete refund.
However, our team (Cindy Reynolds, Shane Endicott, Hope Terhaar and myself) are putting together ideas for our clusters and local churches to facilitate a form of camp, a weekend, 2 days or 1 day. Along with the ideas presented will also come funding for crafts, prizes, snacks, etc. The details of this will come out shortly.
.
Thank you for understanding and please know that we are very sorrowful over this, for our hope, as always, is to bring people to Christ.
.
Sincerely,
Rev. Jim Clifton
Northwest District SDMI Chair and Camp Director
