Section Backpacking the Superior Hiking Trail

 

In northeastern Minnesota, the Superior Hiking Trail traverses 296 miles of rugged landscape and beautiful vistas of Lake Superior. The most popular and arguably more scenic sections of the Superior Hiking Trail start north of Duluth.

Join Pingora Outdoors as we backpack a section of the Superior Hiking Trail. We will make our way from Castle Danger, Gooseberry Falls State Park, Split Rock Wayside and finish at Split Rock River. The trek will begin with fairly steep climbs, weaving in and out of forests to gorgeous views of Lake Superior and ending with cascading waterfalls and towering Split Rocks.

Unplug from technology, make new friends, and get ready for new experiences and scenic views! We will take time to snap photos, play in the water and learn how to camp and cook as a group. Backpacking with Pingora Outdoors by your side will be an unforgettable adventure for all!

Trip Overview

Day 1

• Castle Danger to Gooseberry Falls State Park (9.1 Miles)
• Starts with short but steep climb to ridgeline with views of forests and Lake Superior.

Day 2

• Gooseberry Falls State Park to Split Rock Wayside (8.5 Miles)
• Get ready for stunning overlooks of Lake Superior on this day! 

Day 3

• Split Rock River Loop at Split Rock River Wayside
• Highlights on this section are cascading waterfalls and towering Split Rocks.

Two Options for Travel:

Option #1: $950

• Depart from Pingora Outdoors in Ankeny, Iowa on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 9:30 AM.
• Includes transportation, double occupancy room at the Park Point Marina Inn and all meals.
• Return to Pingora Outdoors in Ankeny, IA on Sunday, June 3, 2018 by 10pm.

Option #2: $650

• Meet Pingora Outdoors, and other trip goers, on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Park Point Marina Inn at 7:30 AM or earlier. We will depart for the trailhead at 8 AM sharp. Please do not be late.
• Transportation to and from trail head and lodging on Thursday, May 31, 2018 is on your own.
