Fishing Basics for Women and Youth

Sunday, September 19, 2021
1:00pm – 4:30pm
Meet at the north shelter at Prairie Rose State Park

Want to introduce children to fishing, but unsure of how to get started? This hands-on workshop for women and youth is designed for moms, grandmas, or other women who want to take youth fishing. Learn together how to rig your pole for panfish, and how to find and catch them throughout the year. Hone your casting skills and learn what to do with the fish you catch.
Women who register can bring up to three youth. Don't have youth to bring? Come alone, or grab a friend. [Youth can only be registered as a guest of an adult participant.]

If you have your own equipment, please bring it with you. Limited loaner equipment will be available upon request. If you are age 16 or older, you must have an Iowa Fishing License to fish. Event registration is required.

How you can prepare:

  • Register for the event [required - link below].
  • Purchase your Iowa fishing license.
  • Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather.
  • Bring a water bottle, insect repellant and sunscreen.
