How mindfulness can benefit our negativity bias
Biologically, human beings are "hard wired" to bring greater focus to the negative events in our lives. This "negativity bias" serves as a basic mechanism for survival, protecting us from future potential harm. The problem occurs when we get stuck in negative thinking over a past or imagined future event, regardless if the thought is true or helpful, or not.
Mindfulness helps us become more aware of our thoughts and our thinking patterns. Through compassionate awareness in the present moment we can offer ourselves healthy options for working with our internal experience.
