May 2-3 2014 Can We Listen? BBDP Gathering

This year is the 40th Anniversary of Boston's School Desegregation Order and the 60th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education.

This anniversary year is a critical time to connect with BBDP. This is your chance to listen to stories we’ve heard and shared so far. It is a time to learn together what those stories say about the past and about your dreams for the future we want to build.

Please join us if you

  • are committed to addressing issues of race and class equity
  • seek democratic access
  • demand excellence of our public institutions, and/or
  • have been connected with the BBDP in the past

On Friday, we’ll listen to, learn from and reflect on stories about the "busing" crisis, the tensions of 1974 and beyond, school desegregation and ongoing and historical struggles for race and class equity, democratic access and excellence.

On Saturday, you will engage these stories, current events and other resources to identify

  • what steps we can take now and
  • what leadership practices we need to cultivate in ourselves and our communities over the next 40 years

in order to make race and class equity, access and excellence in public education and beyond a reality for all of us in Boston.

Please join us for this critical exploration we too rarely find time for.
