NCCDP Alzheimer's Disease and 
Dementia Care Seminar

Take the path to certification as a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP®) by participating in the Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia Care Seminar approved by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners. This is the required seminar for qualified individuals pursuing CDP® certification or those seeking further education and training in Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care.

Training is from 8am to 5pm at Savannah Grand of Maitland. Attendees will receive a training manual, a Certificate of Attendance reflecting 7 hours of training, and information on how to apply to become a Certified Dementia Practitioner. A light breakfast and lunch are included.

This course is available to assisted living communities, memory care communities, caregivers, health care practitioners, law enforcement, community organizations, public guardians, ombudsman, elder law attorneys, and anyone else who is interested in learning about dementia.

Course Goals and Objectives:

- To provide fundamental education on dementia and dementia care
- To enhance the quality of life of dementia patients through education care providers
- Foster sensitivity and respect for the dementia client
- To teach communication techniques
- To provide sensitive approaches for assisting patients with activities of daily living.

Participants will:

- Have an understanding of dementia
- Identify common causes of aggressive, repetitive and sundowning behaviors in adults
- Describe behavioral/care interventions that may be used to prevent or reduce difficult care situations.
- Describe challenges related to caregiver stress and utilize stress reduction techniques
- Learn alternative activity interventions that are success oriented and failure free
- Receive certificate of attendance in seminar.

Instructor Information:

Dawn Platt, LPN, CDP, CA DDCT, is a regional trainer and memory care specialist with Legend Senior Living, a training consultant for Florida Senior Living Association and a trainer for the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.  She is also a facilitator for a Neuroplasticity Study on PARO Seal Therapy for Legend Senior Living in coordination with the University of Texas at Tyler.

 Dawn’s approach to Memory Care is passionate and innovative; focusing on training and the development of therapeutic programming for individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia’s. She is a Licensed Practical Nurse, a Certified Dementia Practitioner and an Assisted Living Residence Director, and she brings over 30 years’ experience in the Long-Term Care Profession.
