'WILD About Insects'
Workshop for Teachers
Discover how insects play many important roles in an ecosystem as we explore local field sites through hands-on learning activities! This experiential professional development workshop, designed for K-12 teachers, will provide you with the opportunity to:
- Build up your background knowledge for teaching about insects in place-based settings.
- Learn new academic activities and investigative teaching techniques from the recently updated 'Project WILD Guide' (honey bees, monarchs, and dragonflies- OH MY!).
- Take home instructional resources and tools for teaching both inside and outside of the classroom.
Delta OUT
- This workshop is part of the ‘Delta Outdoor Understanding for Teachers’ professional development program. Delta and Olathe area teachers attending this workshop, plus two other 1-day OUT workshops are eligible for CPW-site field trip transportation matching grants and equipment loans. Registration Fee
- The fee for this workshop is $10. You can bring a check with you when you arrive to the workshop made out to 'Colorado Parks and Wildlife Education'.
Credit
- A 0.5 continuing education credit from Colorado School of Mines is available for an additional fee of $40. Participants can register and pay for credit (by check only) at the workshop.
- A ‘Delta OUT WILD About Insects’ Certificate of Completion will be provided to all participants.
What to Expect & Bring:
- We will begin this workshop at ‘The Nature Connection Building' in Hotchkiss at 8:30 a.m. and carpool to other nearby sites throughout the day, including 'Thistle Whistle Farm' and 'Sweitzer Lake State Park'.
- Be prepared for varying levels of activity in the outdoors. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.
- You'll want to bring a sack lunch, small backpack, full waterbottle, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
