Sports Massage for the Athlete

Program Description

Summary of techniques

  • Deep tissue massage
  • Sports massage
  • Therapeutic/Swedish massage
  • Pregnancy massage
  • Hot stone massage
  • Chair massage
  • Reiki energy work

Format

The program content will be presented in both lecture and laboratory format.

Outline

1.       Football

  • Assess by position athletes play
  • Quarterback: focus on shoulder, forearms, hands, upper back, neck, hips, knees
  • Running back: focus on legs, lower back, hips
  • Receiver: focus on legs, shoulders, upper back
  • Offensive line: focus on quads, hamstrings, lower back, hips, delts, biceps, hands
  • Defensive line: focus is similar to offensive line due to stance
  • Kickers: focus on legs, lower back, hips, and IT bands

 2.       Running

  • Large focus on legs, hips, IT band, feet, and back
3.       Cycling
  • Focus on entire back due to position on bike; focus on hips, quadriceps, hamstrings, IT bands
4.       Triathletes
  • Focus on the entire body; large focus on legs and lower back
5.       Basketball referee
  • Focus on legs, lower back, neck, and shoulders
6.       Cross Fit
  • Focus on shoulders, upper and lower back, hips, quadriceps, hamstrings, and IT bands
7.       Olympic weight lifters
  • Focus on shoulders, upper and lower back, hips, quadriceps, hamstrings, and IT bands
8.       Post-operative scar massage and other issues
  • ACL reconstruction
  • Knee scopes
  • Achilles rupture
  • Rotator cuff repair
  • Biceps tendon rupture
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Turf toe
  • Tendonitis: biceps, rotator cuff, patellar tendon
