Leslie Maze Free
~ Free To Be Me
Always a little quirky, Leslie Maze Free felt she was different, It wasn't until later in her life that she realized she had wrestled with ADHD and PTSD. Six years ago, Leslie discovered she had Melanoma followed by Stage 3 Breast Cancer. Still struggling with chemo brain, fatigue and other side effects, it's been difficult to work, maintain self-esteem and her identity after the cancer. Throughout her elementary and high school life, she attended multiple schools which even though difficult, it forced her to create new friendships in unique ways. Leslie's talents include actress, dancer (you should see her Tina Turner Impression), and she speaks in many accents, from the characters of the Carol Burnett Show to pretty much all European accents. Leslie plans to use these talents and passions to continue to make people laugh and has her hopes set on developing a YouTube or Podcast Comedy Show in the future. Her experiences as Emcee and Entertainer, alongside the skills she obtained throughout her media career; span from a CKRY Book Interviewer show in the early 90's, News Announcer with CFVR, CHQR Community Events and Traffic Reporter, even Host of the Shaw TV "Talk of the Town", well equip her with the necessary tools to pursue her passions. Leslie is no stranger to ‘hard work for achievements’, as one of the top fundraiser and sponsorship coordinator's in Canada for 2013 & 2014 with the The Arthritis Society.
Colette Smithers was born in Ireland and immigrated to Canada at age 16. She became a typical middle class Canadian woman; a wife and mother with a successful career. At age 50, after a difficult divorce and the failure of her business venture, Colette found herself homeless, broke and alone. That experience, particularly her time spent with the women of the Calgary YWCA Mary Dover House, completely transformed her perception of faith, family and home. She now believes in living life on her own terms, with empathy, gratitude and joy. Colette is passionate about the issue of homelessness for women and shares her story to encourage all of us to see each other as human beings, deserving of respect and dignity. Colette is an avid foodie, amateur photographer, a novice trader and budding writer. She is also the Director of Women Talk in Medicine Hat, Alberta and has authored a chapter in the Women Talk Anthology. Among her previous list of achievements you'll find such talents as; amateur actor; former ballroom/latin dance instructor; even a Tonka Truck and Race Car Driver and artistic Baker. Colette is presently redefining her passion of service on the campaign trail in Medicine Hat for City Council.
