SPIRITUALITY FOR A WORLD IN CRISIS

 World in Crisis

 Working towards a Spiritual Alliance

A GATHERING TO SEEK A CO-CREATIVE  APPROACH TO A NEW ERA

on Saturday 8 June 2013

at Essex Unitarian Church, Kensington

“The fundamental problem, I believe, is that at every level we are giving too much attention to the external, material aspects of life while neglecting moral ethics and inner values.” HH Dalai Lama

 Cost: from £25

 (concessions/Collaborating Organisations)

What are the key issues at stake?

How might we co-operate?

Can we bring our various spiritual visions together to inspire a change in the way we live?

The gathering will include opportunities for all to share their own perspectives on the theme and to contribute to future initiatives.

Can we come together to find co-creative ways forward?

Existing institutions are not rising to the challenges we face in today’s world. So an emerging alliance of spiritual and religious groupings is coming together to explore what each might contribute to a coherent vision and set of actions for the future.

Keynote speakers will be:-

David Lorimer - Programme Director of the Scientific & Medical Network, President of the Wrekin Trust, Chief Executive of Character Scotland and Vice-President of the Swedenborg Society. David is editor and author of over a dozen books including Radical Prince: The Practical Vision of the Prince of Wales.

His talk - Towards a Culture of Love and Wisdom - will focus on the shift of consciousness and values underway from separation to oneness, from fragmentation to wholeness, with an emphasis on harmonising masculine and feminine principles, reason and intuition, science and mysticism. The future is ours to co-create with the power of transformative imagination and vision.

Dr Greg Barker - is an author, Director of the Alister Hardy Religious Experience Research Centre and Senior Lecturer of Religious Studies at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Lampeter. He is currently engaged in research in the area of ‘Spiritual Atheism’ and lectures on interfaith dialogue, history and method of religious studies, religion and war, religion and film and religion and the media.

His talk - Spirituality for a World in Crisis - Our central quest must be to build more soulful lives and a more humane world. Yet, we must avoid the temptation to waste our energies identifying pseudo enemies and engaging in navel gazing spiritualities. How can we escape the fog that so easily accompanies both polemical argumentation and an individualistic quest? Gregory Barker will explore a spiritual path that can create bridges between all human beings - even those who may hate the term “spirituality”.

Sr Maureen - of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University (UK) will open and close the day in a meditative way. The BKs have 40 local teaching centres around the UK, offering people the opportunity to deepen their understanding of universal spiritual principles and to learn a range of spiritual skills, in particular Raja Yoga meditation.
