This Saturday May 12th is Stamp Out Hunger, the nation's largest one-day food drive! On this day, mail carriers will be picking up donations of nonperishable food from doorsteps all across the US. The letter carriers will then transport the food back to their postal offices and all donated food will then be distributed to local food banks.
MEND has been both a participant in and beneficiary of the food drive since the event's inception. In the San Fernando Valley, post offices designated to share donations with us include Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys Main and Civic Center, Tarzana, Pacoima, Sun Valley, Sylmar, and Panorama City.
We're in urgent need of volunteers to assist Postal workers at 4 different Post Office locations with receiving, sorting, and loading of incoming donations. Volunteers must wear comfortable clothes (i.e. pants, t-shirt) and closed toe shoes. This opportunity is for volunteers who are 18 years old or older.
