We got the Beat!

slide“We Got the Beat” is a reunion held every two years in celebration and remembrance of children with congenital heart disease and their families, hosted by the University of Michigan Congenital Heart Center and Save A Heart, in partnership with the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center.

This reunion will bring families together from all over the country. The focus is to provide support, education and camaraderie in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Our activities reflect a country fair theme which includes pony rides, a ‘dunk the doctor’ tank, a rock climbing wall, bouncy houses, face painting, games and prizes.

Meet your Doctor!

We are introducing our newest idea... “Meet Your Doctor” where children and their families crowleycan reunite with their University of Michigan doctors, take photos, and share stories.

This year, “We Got the Beat,” will be honoring one University of Michigan doctor who has made a difference in the lives of many children and their families – Dr. Edward L. Bove. To those that call him their doctor, he is a hero, and for those of them that know his name, he is a role model, a caring clinician, an outstanding teacher and a talented scientist. “We Got the Beat” and our friends at the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center are proud to announce the establishment of a tribute to Dr. Bove’s remarkable legacy: The Edward L. Bove, M.D., Endowed Professorship in Cardiac Surgery.

The Edward L. Bove, M.D.
Endowed Professorship in Cardiac Surgery

boveAlmost every day for over 25 years, Dr. Edward Bove has given the families of children with congenital heart defects hope. Each year Dr. Bove and his colleagues at the Congenital Heart Center perform more than 900 pediatric cardiac surgeries. In fact, many of these incredibly complex procedures are done so frequently they have now become routine – not commonplace, but certainly without question, doable. Moreover, some 98% of patients survive – statistics that were unimaginable just a few decades ago.  In addition, Dr. Bove has trained more than 36 surgeons to follow in his footsteps, many of whom now lead pediatric cardiovascular surgery centers throughout the world.
To honor this extraordinary man, the University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center is establishing a tribute to his remarkable legacy: The Edward L. Bove, M.D., Endowed Professorship in Cardiac Surgery.
If Dr. Bove has affected your life – or the life of a loved one – through his care, teaching, inspiration, or friendship, please join us in establishing this professorship. Visit www.umcvc.org/bove or call 734-615-3657 to learn more.

Registration has been extended to June 15th @ 3:00pm, 2012 - Space is Limited!
