RiverEdge Park and Dublin Link Signature Pedestrian Bridges

Presented by: Bobby Sokolowaski, PE and Dan Fitzwilliam, PE from TY Lin

Pedestrian bridges are often miniscule in scale when compared to the largest signature structures in the world. This reduced scale can allow for more freedom in design and allow for geometries that are equally dramatic and functional. This presentation will explore the development and design of two uniquely different signature pedestrian bridges.

Planning & Design of the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) Mile Long Bridge

Presented by: Mohamad Faraj, PE, PME from ISTHA, Andy Lohan, SE from Lochner and Derek Scullion, PE, SE from HDR

The Mile Long Bridge is a critical piece of infrastructure on the Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) corridor as it carries drivers over two major railroads, three water resources and local roads, and over a major distribution center for UPS and Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway. The $500 million Mile Long Bridge Project replaces the existing 54 span bridge with two new, wider bridge structures. The new bridge utilizes the longest prestressed concrete spans in Illinois (187 feet) and the longest steel spans (410ft) on the entire Tollway network. This presentation outlines the design challenges and solutions adopted to deliver this large and complex bridges.
