ALBANY, NY – The fifth in the Capital District Regional Planning Commission’s (CDRPC) speaker series, CDRPC@50, will feature Richard Lyons, former Executive Director of the Albany County Water Purification District and a 40-yar veteran of water quality stewardship. The event will be held at the National Register-listed University Club at 141 Washington Avenue at Dove Street on Monday, October 30th at 12p.m.

Richard will discuss The Albany County Water Purification District: History of Protecting Public Health and Improving Water Quality. The District was formed in 1968 by resolution 45 of the County Legislature. 2017 marks the 43rd year of providing wastewater conveyance and treatment service to eight communities serving a population of over 200,000, while improving the water environment and protecting public health.

The University Club will serve a hot and cold buffet from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m., with the program commencing at 12:30. The cost for the luncheon is $20. Richard Lyons has worked for the Albany County Water Purification District for over 40 years; in June 2015, he retired as executive director and now works part time as a project manager. He was president of the New York Water Environment Association in 2012. Lyons has received numerous awards from NYWEA and the American Public Works Association and received the Water Environment Federation’s Arthur Sidney Bedell Award in 1998. Richard is the president of the CSO Pool Communities Corporation, the Local Development Corporation made up of 6 local communities participating in the CDRPC-led Albany Pool Communities Combined Sewer Overflow Long Term Control Plan.

This event is open to the public and presented by the Capital District Regional Planning Commission (CDRPC) and the University Club of Albany Foundation, Inc. One need not be a member of either organization to attend. If your municipality has passed a resolution accepting CDRPC as a training provider, this event will meet the State law for Planning and Zoning Boards continuing education requirements (sample resolutions available upon request). A certificate of attendance will be provided to Planning and Zoning Board attendees. Certification Maintenance credits may also be available for members of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
