Alphapointe Woodturners Workshop
Friday June 23rd Andi Sullivan, a blind woodturner from Florida, is coming to Kansas City. Andi is an inspiring and charismatic teacher and speaker. In the last four years she has implemented woodturning programs for people with vision loss in Tampa, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Atlanta; and now in partnership with Alphapointe, in Kansas City.
Only 25 places for this exclusive free class are available. First come, first serve to anyone with vision loss that is 16 years of age or older.
Participants will visit the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) Instant Gallery, a huge show-and-tell display of artistic and functional turned wood where in one section you will be able to handle a variety of bowls made by the people attending the symposium, donated for KC charities.
Participants will attend a special session of famous wood artists who will show their tactile art pieces for you to touch and examine, a light snack and drink are included.
Then participants will learn to use a mini-lathe and make a pen of your own, with one-on-one instruction from skilled woodturners.
A mini-lathe and tools have already been donated to start an ongoing woodturning program at Alphapointe.
