AFCEA CMD Membership Luncheon

AFCEA Central Maryland Chapter hosts a monthly luncheon series that features keynote speeches from industry leaders, networking opportunities, and updates on upcoming events. 

KEY NOTE SPEAKER: 

Shawn G. Turskey, DISES, Executive Director, US Cyber Command

Mr. Turskey assumed his current position as Executive Director (ExDIR), United States Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM) in June 2014. The ExDIR position represents the highest-ranking-civilian and third-in­ command at USCYBERCOM. Mr. Turskey is responsible for leading in an organization of over 12,000 personnel, to include a headquarters element, six large Service Cyber Components, 133 Cyber Mission Force Teams consisting of over 6000 cyber warriors, and Department of Defense (DoD) enterprise defense forces. He plays an integral role in driving global cyber operations to defend the DoD network, provide cyber options for combatant commanders, and defend U.S. critica l infrastructure. He shapes a headquarters budget of nearly

$700M, and elements of DoD budgets totaling in the billions. In addition, Mr. Turskey is the lead for the Cyber Tools and Capabilities Development efforts under the Secretary of Defense Cyber Strategy, driving strategic and technical innovation that enables and equips the cyber warrior to conduct operations. Finally, he is the USCYBERCOM advisor to the Defense Science Board' s effort studying Cyber as a Strategic Capability.

During his 30 year career at the National Security Agency (NSA), he has success fully spearheaded several missions in the Directorates of Signals Intelligence (SID), Information Assurance (IAD) and the NSA/CSS Threat Operations Center (NTOC). Specifically, Mr. Turskey's background spans a breadth and depth of technical and operational leadership across NSA' s cyber components. As the Chief of the Remote & Deployed Operations (RDO) Group, he was responsible for executing lAD's defensive operations including the Red, Blue, and Hunt Teams. He held several positions in the NTOC, to include the Chief of Strategy, NSA's lead for an Inter-Agency Cyber Ta ble Top Exercise, and the Subject Matter Expert on the Cyber Threat. He led various organizations in SID' s Tailored Access Operations (TAO) with a specific focus on cyber tool development and operations for Computer Network Exploitation (CNE), to include  two years leading operations in TAO's Remote Operations Center (ROC). In addition, Mr. Turskey spent four years leading the Agency's voice processing efforts, and his first seven years at the lab bench conducting complex analog and digital design.

Mr. Turskey has been the recipient of several awards: Presidential Rank Award, Office of Secretary of Defense Certificate of Excellence, Meritorious Civilian Service Award, Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of the Treasury, as well as three National Intelligence Merit Unit Citations and three Joint Meritorious Unit Awards.

Mr. Turskey is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). He earned a Master of Science degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College, an Executive Education Certificate from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Akron.

Mr. Turskey and his wife are natives of Massillon, Ohio and have three adult children in college.
