Swiss and Palatine immigrants led by Christoph von Graffenried settled the city of New Bern, North Carolina in 1710. It is the second oldest colonial town in the state. New Bern is home to Tryon Palace, North Carolina’s first permanent state capitol. We will be touring the Governor’s Palace and the Kitchen Office where we will witness 18th century cooking techniques. Also, we will take a tour through a historic home and explore the palace gardens. It is without a doubt the closest thing you can find to the kingdom of Arendelle within driving distance of Greenville (for all you Frozen fans!).
Following the Palace tour, our group will enjoy a delicious lunch at Morgan’s Tavern and Grill located in downtown New Bern. This will be followed by a canvas painting party at the New Bern Wine & Design Studio (please note: we will only be participating in the design). Local artists will teach students a variety of painting techniques while we each paint our own canvas. Finally, students will be able to take their work of art home with them and one lucky student will have their painting on display in the Mamie Jenkins Building!
