Mental Health Well-being Awareness:

Enhancing General Understanding

ABOUT WORKSHOP 1:

This session is valuable for all staff that interact with international students on a regular basis, front-line, student support, marketing and admissions, senior management, as well as academic staff across all sectors.  

Join us for this practical introductory workshop that will provide a healthy outlook on mental health well-being awareness. The workshop will assist you to understand what the potential stressors that can impair our mental health are and will help you learn the signs of stress and evidence-based strategies to decrease these effects. You will increase your awareness of support systems, both personal and organisational and will leave with a list of crisis contacts and other mental health support agencies both WA and national to effectively guide those in need of referral.

Workshop Outcomes:

  • To recognise signs of stress
  • To identify mental health issues in others
  • To learn evidence based helping strategies
  • To discover appropriate referrals

 

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Jackie McRae, Mental Health First Aid Principal Master Trainer

Jackie is a principal master trainer for the internationally award winning Mental Health First Aid course, with over 225 workshops delivered.

Jackie is passionate about first aid - mental, physical & emotional. With the philosophy of empowering individuals to help make a difference with their friends, family & work colleagues.

Practical knowledge is supported by tertiary studies in a Masters in Rehabilitation Counselling (currently studying), a Graduate Diploma in Psychology, a Bachelor of Applied Science (Sports Studies), a Post Grad in Biomedical Science (Health Promotion) and a Graduate Diploma in Education (Training & Development).

Further mental health knowledge is enhanced by current studies in Transactional Analysis and previously as a volunteer Lifeline telephone counsellor.

For over 25 years Jackie has been involved in the health area, with training experience in a wide variety of industries including, University lecturing, emergency management, sports medicine, health promotion, road safety and "physical" first aid. Jackie has delivered courses to a wide variety of people and organisations, including; local & state government, non-government & not-for profits, frontline managers, executives, mine site workers & trades people, school teachers & students, senior citizens & sporting clubs.

We have organised these workshops as a two-part series, therefore, we strongly recommend you register for both workshops as Workshop 1 and Workshop 2 complement each other.
