8:10am – 11:40am: The Life of a Small Business (the Sunrise Years)

Every business starts with an idea and a dream. Our two daring entrepreneurs know what they want – but how do they get there? Our presentation will look at the steps every successful business must take – and why anticipating as many of them as possible greatly increases the chances of success. The path to success is dependent not just on what the owner does, but when and how it is done! There are many early decisions that affect both the growth potential and the stability of the new enterprise.

The course instructors will cover choice of entity, how to determine capital needs and different ways to fill those needs, how to structure the new business so that the owners feel motivated to do their most for success, and how to feed it as it grows!

In today’s challenging economic environment, business owners are overwhelmed with regulatory mandates which impact their company’s ability to be profitable while maintaining compliance. The Affordable Care Act remains one of the most contentious and misunderstood legislative reforms we have seen in decades.

Using a case study, attendees will review the original intent of this massive piece of legislation, discuss the practical cost-to-benefit features of providing health insurance to employees, and thoroughly review the timeline of implementation. Attendees will come away with a heightened awareness of the actual financial impact these changes will have on business owners and their employees.

The course instructors are Thomas D. McGowen, CPA, CFP, with Stuart, Stout, McGowen & King, LLP and Lou Pierce, CLU with Plybon & Associates.

There will be a break between 10:10am – 10:40am. Please visit our generous Partners.

11:40am – 1:00pm: Enjoy your lunch, network and visit our Partners!

1:00pm – 4:15pm: The Life of a Small Business (the Sunset Years)

We know that one of the most important factors for a successful business transition is having a tangible, actionable succession plan and exit strategy. Whether the owner is selling to a third party, key employee(s) or family member(s), the process won’t just happen on its own. It requires planning, due diligence and follow through. So why do most business owners put it off? Or settle for lower ROI? Because it’s personal, it’s emotional, it takes time and it is hard work!

In this panel presentation, we will explore the real and often very difficult legal, financial, and emotional challenges that can get in the way of building an effective succession plan and exit strategy. Attendees will come away with a greater awareness of the legal and financial pitfalls of the succession planning process as well as the impact of emotions and identity on the approach to the transition and be better able to anticipate the challenges and provide guidance on a path towards resolution.

The four panelists are:

Abby Donnelly, MS, with The Leadership & Legacy Group

Christina Johnson, JD, with Connors Morgan, PLLC

Paula Wells, JD, with Connors Morgan, PLLC

Jeff Workman, JD, with Connors Morgan, PLLC

There will be a break between 3:00pm – 3:15pm. Please visit our generous Partners.
