Presentation: OSHA recently revised its rule on Occupational Injury and Illness Recordkeeping. Work-relatedness remains a key, but frequently misunderstood, concept of the rule. During this session, participants will learn a novel way to apply this concept correctly when attempting to determine OSHA recordability.

Bio: George B. Flynn, MS, CIH, is the owner of OSHAssist, LLC, a consulting firm providing comprehensive OSHA compliance assessment and assistance services. For 30 years he worked for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in a variety of positions, including; Senior Industrial Hygiene Compliance Officer, Compliance Assistance Specialist and Assistant Area Director. George is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) with a Master of Science degree in Environmental Sciences.

Megan R. Meagher
OSHA

Presentation: Megan  will review the recording and reporting changes to the OSHA recordkeeping rule. She will also discuss the types of events being reported, the industries most affected and the impact to the OSHA area offices.

Bio: Megan R. Meagher is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with a Masters Degree in Environmental Health from Colorado State University. She has been with OSHA for over twenty years, serving as a Compliance Officer, Assistant Area Director and Compliance Assistance Specialist. She is currently the Assistant Regional Administrator for Technical Support in the Denver Regional Office.

Megan provides oversight for OSHA’s Cooperative Programs including OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program, Consultation, and Region VIII’s State Plans as well as supporting regional compliance assistance and outreach efforts with both industry and organized labor.

Rodney L. Smith, Esq.
Sherman & Howard

Presentation: Rod Smith will offer his legal critique of the new reporting rule, along with useful tips to avoid over-reporting, unnecessary on-site inspections and guidance on responding to OSHA's requests for information.  

Bio: Rod Smith is a Member in Sherman & Howard’s Labor and Employment Department. He has over 35 years representing employers in labor, employment and occupational safety and health matters. Rod is recognized as one of the top OSHA defense attorneys in the country, representing both small and large employers in a wide range of industries. He frequently writes and speaks on occupational safety and health topics.
