Corrosion of Reinforcing Steel in Concrete & Strategies for Mitigation
This course will cover factors affecting corrosion of infrastructure, including reinforced concrete. The course will discuss corrosion initiation, progression and failure of structures affected by corrosion. Measurement techniques to help identify corrosion and the root causes will be covered, as well as available technologies and strategies for corrosion avoidance, mitigation and control.

Speaker Bio: Jorge Costa has dedicated his entire professional career to understanding corrosion phenomena and their effect on infrastructure. Jorge has extensive experience in corrosion evaluations and condition assessments, engineering, cathodic protection, marine corrosion, concrete deterioration, materials investigation, repair & rehabilitation design, and research engineering & testing. Jorge has participated in important projects in various sectors, including electric power generation, transmission & distribution, and transportation infrastructure, energy, and marine. Jorge is a US Patent holder and has authored numerous articles and technical papers related to corrosion protection and infrastructure service life.
He frequently lectures at industry venues, professional organizations, and universities on corrosion assessments, corrosion avoidance and mitigation, and infrastructure service life.
