Mindfulness:
Accessing Natural Intelligence for Healing

Saturday, May 16, 2020
9:45 AM to 4 PM
Presenter: Bill Cahalan, Ph.D.

5 CE hours For Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists

Mindfulness is an attitude and skill which many therapists have been integrating with their personal lives and practices. They are finding it helpful in addressing anxiety, depression, stress-related symptoms, and other personal and client issues. It does not require changing one's theoretical orientation, and can be integrated with most therapeutic systems.

This workshop will introduce a particular approach to mindfulness. It will familiarize participants with a relaxed, sustained attentiveness which is receptive to “natural intelligence”. This is the tendency in all life toward creative interdependence and health. We will focus on this process in bodily and emotional functioning, but also in small group dynamics and the wider natural world, more explicitly than is usually presented.

Natural intelligence is mostly beyond our willful control. It permeates us, the earth and the universe. We wouldn't exist without it. Some may think of it as God's presence, others simply as an inherent, pervasive wisdom. It is accessed in many of the healing arts and is further highlighted by ecology and complex systems science. Cultivating an openness to and resonance with this dynamic quality can lead not only to reduced stress, but deeper joy and creativity.

Objectives:
Learn the nature and origins of mindfulness and of natural intelligence.
Improve the ability to see and feel natural intelligence within, among and around us.Learn five forms of mindfulness practice.
Learn ways to begin a personal practice.
Prepare to apply these practices with adult clients in individual therapy.

$100 per person
$50 for Masters level students

Limited to 12 participants for more individual attention.

Bill Cahalan Ph.D is a psychologist who has
conducted therapy with a wide variety of client
problems in various settings for over 30 years. He
   works from an experiential/relationship orientation,
focusing on the client’s relationship with self, others,
the natural world, and the spiritual dimension of these.
His approach involves clarifying life directions in a
vivid, here and now, directly felt way rather than
   through head knowledge alone.
