RDH Networking: RDH Role in Catastrophe Preparedness, Response and Mitigation with Winnie Furnari, RDH, MS, FAADH, FAAFS Saturday 10.24.20 at 11am
New Jersey has seen pandemic, earthquakes, hurriccanes, and more. This course will stress the RDH’s role as a member of the health care community. There is a need to be able to react to the consequences of weapons of mass destruction, and additional disasters, both natural (e.g. Pandemic influenza, hurricanes) and accidental. RDHs should be familiar with the signs & symptoms of potential agents, and understand how to protect the health & safety of themselves, their workplace, patients and families. They should understand their possible role in the public health system’s coordinated response. The course will review the valuable contributions hygienists can make in times of public health need. The goal is to develop dental hygienists into knowledgeable and potential participants in events of mass disaster or catastrophic events or those of accidental nature. All will be encouraged to join their community public health systems.
Course Objectives:
v Demonstrate an understanding of the types of threats and circumstances that constitute catastrophes v Apply dental hygiene knowledge and experience to prepare, respond and mitigate in times of public heath need v Identify the tools necessary to prepare and respond to mass disasters natural or meditated v Identify the potential participation dental hygienists can contribute to catastrophic events. v Demonstrate the knowledge of the Chemical, Biological, Radiological Nuclear, and Explosive agents in warfare and accidents v Create a plan for self, family, patients, workplace when the need is to shelter in place or evacuate
