Make a May Basket at the One-Room Schoolhouse

Celebrate the arrival of spring with the long-lost tradition of May Baskets. Children and adults invited to create a memento for friends or for Mother's Day.

Just like it was done in years past, small paper baskets filled with flowers will be creatively made by each participant in this historic schoolroom where children from area farms attended from 1850-1920.  Dating back hundreds of years, this nostalgic ritual welcomed spring at the beginning of May with children making colorful baskets of flowers which were then brought to friends' and neighbors' homes and left as a surprise on their doorstep.

This fun activity comes the day before Mother's Day and is a perfect opportunity to create a lovely and thoughtful memento for mom or grandmothers.

Advance registration and tickets only.  Timed admissions in half-hour slots between 1- 3:30 p.m. provide for safe distancing.  Face masks are also required.  Cost is $5 per participant.

Welcome spring with this old-fashioned tradition!
