Based on decades of experience, studies, original qualitative research of 1,500 participants, and in-depth interviews with leaders who practice compassionate leadership, Tramuto discovered a compassionate leadership gap: a widespread belief in compassionate leadership, but a simultaneous deficit of it in practice.

 The Double Bottom Line: How Compassionate Leaders Captivate Hearts and Deliver Results puts forth strategies to close the compassionate leadership gap and drive bottom line results. It defines a new model of leadership, identifies the secrets of successful leaders who win hearts and deliver results, and examines how to cultivate more compassionate people.

 All proceeds from the book are being shared amongst a group of nonprofits, including RFK Community Alliance.

ABOUT THE CONVERSATION

Donato J. Tramuto will share his takeaways from extensive research of and experience in compassionate leadership. And then we’re pleased to offer a panel of leaders to share their experience with compassionate leadership in health and human services.

Donato J. Tramuto

Global health activist, philanthropist, author, and former CEO of Tivity Health (NASDAQ:TVTY).  He is the founder of the TramutoPorter Foundation and Health eVillages. He has over four decades of business leadership experience and is most notable for his ability to balance transactional and transformational leadership within organizations. He has received a number if awards including the  prestigious Robert F Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award (2014) and the Robert F Kennedy Embracing his Legacy Award (2017) and has been honored with Honorary Doctorate Degrees from UMASS at Lowell, Thomas Jefferson University, Lasell University, St. Joseph’s College (Maine), and Regis College in Boston.   He serves on many Executive Boards and is an honorary scholar in residence at St. Joseph’s College in Maine and a sought after speaker on leading with compassion and addressing the social determinants of health.

Penny Outlaw

Until recently Penny Outlaw was the Chief Human Resources Officer at Partners in Health. She has worked in many sectors including government, finance, retail, technology and nonprofit. Her work has centered in employee relations and engagement and diversity and equity and inclusion with a focus on creating positive environments where employees choose to work.  From the beginning, she has specialized in facilitating difficult conversations so that all can be heard with respect and dignity. Penny is an RFK Community Alliance Board member.

Eric Dickson, MD, MHCM, FACEP

President and CEO of UMass Memorial Health, the largest not-for-profit health care system in central Massachusetts with $3.3 billion in annual revenue, 1,700 physicians and more than 16,500 employees. The system includes four owned hospitals on ten campuses with more than 1,000 licensed beds; four affiliated hospitals; 70 office-based community practices; a behavioral health services agency and hospital; six urgent care centers; and an Accountable Care Organization (ACO). UMass Memorial trains 650 residents and fellows annually and performs world-class research in partnership with the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Dickson also serves as a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Dickson completed his medical degree and residency training in emergency medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and has a master’s degree in Health Care Management from Harvard University.  In everything he does, he is committed to health and wellness, and to care provided with compassion and respect.

Peter Stanton (Moderator)

Peter has been the publisher of the region’s premier business news source, the Worcester Business Journal, since 1990.  He also serves as the CEO of WBJ's parent company, New England Business Media, which also owns and operates the Hartford Business Journal and New Haven BIZ in Connecticut, as well as Mainebiz, a statewide source for business news in Maine. Peter serves on the RFK Community Alliance Board, and several other local boards including the Research Bureau, WICN, and Worcester Homecoming – a collaborative effort to enhance and sustain the momentum of Worcester’s renaissance. He is a graduate of Holy Cross College and known for his thoughtful and witty approach to leading.

The Dr. Charles P. Conroy Speakers Series

The Conroy Speakers Series brings members of our communities and beyond together for talks and discussion on a wide range of topics related to the broad spectrum of programs and services we provide at RFK Community Alliance. The series was named for Dr. Charles P. Conroy, CEO of Perkins (now RFK Community Alliance) from 1987 to 2015 for his dedicated service and numerous accomplishments.
