Prepare to embark on a 1-night, 2-day backpack adventure in a remote area of Great Smoky Mountains National Park!
Whether you are new to backpacking, want more confidence while in the backcountry or just want to get out and enjoy the extraordinary Smoky Mountain autumn, this trip is for you!
Learning the basics of backpacking (from how to get safe drinking water and storing your food, to setting up camp) will help you feel at ease on the trail and will make every adventure safe and enjoyable. You will gain the confidence and know-how to care for yourself and the backcountry. We'll also discuss wildlife that might be encountered to help you become more familiar and comfortable with these Smoky Mountain residents.
You will have a knowledgeable and skilled Naturalist guide who will help you make the MOST of your backpacking adventure. Natural history interpretation will be provided to enhance your time spent in this scenic and diverse landscape. Backpacking skills will be taught throughout our adventure, and you will be provided with instruction and tips for preparing before our adventure begins. Liz is also a trained Wilderness First Responder.
We will hike along Twentymile Trail and it's namesake Twentymile Creek. We'll be seranaded by the sounds of Twentymile Creek and will enjoy a photo opportunity at the beautiful Twentymile Cacades.
After 3.1 miles we will arrive at Proctor Field Gap - a nice spot for a break and some discussion of natural and cultural history. From here we'll follow Long Hungry Ridge Trail for the final 1.1 miles to our destination of Campsite #92.
At the end of the day we will settle in to our cozy camp to enjoy dinner and time around the campfire together.
As we hike the trails and spend time in and around camp we will investigate whatever crosses our path and catches our interest. This will include anything from birds and other wildlife to plant life, as well as animal tracks and traces. During our Smokies adventures, you will be captivated by this place the Cherokee call “Land of Blue Smoke".
