Restorative Approach and Risking Connection for Foster Parents 

The Restorative Approach™, newly updated in 2019, is a trauma-informed alternative to traditional “point and level” systems for child congregate care settings.  Based on attachment theory and the principles of restorative justice, it answers the question, “Now that I understand how trauma affects children, what should I do on Monday?”

The Restorative Approach translates what we know about trauma, the brain, and how children heal into specific strategies for all treatment providers within the organization. When children display behaviors that hurt others and the community, rather than “doing time” or dropping levels, staff assigns learning and restorative tasks to help children learn skills and make amends.

This training offers an intensive learning experience about how to teach the 1-Day RA training within your system, agency, or school.  During the course of training, prospective trainers are expected to practice teach to their peers and the Faculty Trainers in a supportive learning environment.  Particular focus is placed on helping participants learn how to exemplify, in their work as a trainer, the relational concept of RICH (Respect, Information, Connection and Hope) that is central to the RA approach.

This training enables RC Trainers to teach the newly-designed RC for Foster Parents training at your agency or school. In 2019 the RC for Foster Parents training was reorganized into 8 separate 90-minute modules that can stand alone or be taught as a series during a timeframe of your choosing. RC Trainers will get exposure to the new materials, experience the exercises, and practice teaching the content. This training focuses on the unique challenges of training foster parents.

Mix-and-Match as needed, but please note the prerequisites:

• You must be a Risking Connection Trainer to attend RA TTT or FC TTT; RC TTT is the foundation
• RA Basic is a prerequisite to the RA TTT
• The RA Basic is open to all with no prerequisite
• There is no FC Basic, the only prerequisite is the RC TTT

Please note: Materials fees for these trainings are included in the costs above. Materials for RA TTT include the RA Teaching Manual and the book Trauma-Informed Treatment: The Restorative Approach by Pat Wilcox. Materials for the Foster Care TTT include the Foster Care Teaching Manual.

Cancellation Policy

Payment is expected at the time of registration. We will refund the registration fee, minus a $30 processing fee, for cancellations up to two weeks prior to the training. No refunds will be made for cancellations inside two weeks.

Presenters

Patricia D. Wilcox, LCSW, Vice President of Strategic Development at Klingberg Family Centers in New Britain, Connecticut specializes in treatment of traumatized children and their families. She created the Restorative Approach™, a trauma- and relationship-based treatment method. She is a Faculty Trainer for Risking Connection® and an Adjunct Faculty at the University of CT School of Social Work and at St. Joseph’s University. She travels nationally to train treaters on trauma-informed care, specializing in improving the daily life of treatment programs. She was the 2011 Connecticut Social Worker of the Year. She is the author of Trauma Informed Care: The Restorative Approach as well as several articles.

Kristi Glotzbach, MSSW, LCSW has been a Faculty Trainer for the Traumatic Stress Institute since 2011, and previously served as an Associate Trainer for TSI starting in 2007.  Kristi has over 23 years working with child-welfare involved children and their families, in both residential and community settings.  Her primary focus has been on working with adolescent females who have experienced multiple adverse childhood experiences, resulting in disrupted placements and little success in achieving permanency.  While working in residential treatment, she helped create a specialized program to help stabilize this population, increase continuity of care, and help these youth work towards permanency.  Kristi is currently the Treatment Director for the Family Ark Behavioral Health Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana.  She sits on the Executive Board of the Clark/Floyd County System of care, a coordinated network hoping to help at-risk youth with behavioral challenges connect to needed resources. In addition, she is an advisory board member for the Center for Promoting Recovery and Resilience at the Kent School of Social Work, where she completed her Master's Degree in the Science of Social Work.  She is passionate about the prevention of childhood trauma, early screening and intervention for children who have experienced trauma, and working with the whole family towards healing.

Continuing Education Credits

RA Basic is eligible for 6.25 CE hours. RA TTT and FC TTT are each eligible for 2.25 CE hours.

Satisfactory Completion
Participants must have paid tuition fee, logged in and out each day, attended the entire webinar, and completed an evaluation to receive a certificate. Failure to log in or out will result in forfeiture of credit for the entire course. No exceptions will be made. Partial credit is not available. Certificates will be available following course completion at www.ceuregistration.com. Actual credit hours offered differs per event.
