MHSA's 2nd Annual Health Institute provides training for Head Start and Early Head Start staff who work with families in all aspects of health. This Institute includes high-quality workshops and inspiring presenters that strive to support staff in providing comprehensive services to families and children.

Keynote Speaker

Ronald Mah, M.A., Ph.D., L.M.F.T.
Ronald Mah is a practicing therapist, trainer, and educator. He is also a son, father, husband, activist, interventionist, and child of immigrant parents. He seeks to combine all relevant concepts, principles, and philosophy with practical techniques and guidelines for effective and productive results. He uses stories, experiences, humor, and wisdom from diverse realms to illustrate important points in a stimulating and highly motivating style. 
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, his experiences include community mental health, Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED) school programs, vocational programs for at-risk youth, welfare to work programs, and Head Start. He works with diverse populations in his private practice in San Leandro. He is a credentialed teacher with a Masters of Psychology, and author of the Asian Pacific Islander Parent Education Support curriculum for the City and County of San Francisco, Department of Human Services.

Dr. Mah will also be providing 3 workshops following his keynote presentation.

Luncheon Speaker

Mona Hanna-Attisha, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.A.P 
Mona Hanna-Attisha MD MPH FAAP is the director of Hurley Children's Hospital's Pediatric Residency Program and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Human Development at Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine in Flint, Michigan. In 2016 she was named one of TIME’s top 100 most influential people in the world. This came from her diligently advocating for the children and families in Flint, who had been exposed to toxic water. With a background in environmental health, Dr. Hanna-Attisha completed medical school at Michigan State University, residency and chief residency at Children's Hospital of Michigan, and public health training in health policy from the University of Michigan. 
In addition to educating the next generation of physicians, Dr. Hanna-Attisha now directs the Michigan State University and Hurley Children's Hospital Pediatric Public Health Initiative, an innovative and model public health program to research, monitor and mitigate the impact of the Flint water lead crisis.

Parking
