Everything You Need to Improve Your Nonprofit's Performance - 10/15/2019 - C0450

This workshop will provide existing nonprofits the essential information critical for improving the success of your organization.

You will learn strategies from an attorney specializing in nonprofit law, a past Executive Director of a large nonprofit, and the Past Board President of a growing community nonprofit. They will teach you about critical issues with nonprofit bylaws, how to develop your organizational structure, how to refine your goals, objectives and desired outcomes, including how to develop and best utilize your Board of Directors.

Who should attend?
Anyone who wants to improve their nonprofit organization’s performance and the capabilities of their CEO’s, directors and managers.

 Background:

There are approximately 1,375 nonprofit organizations registered in Sonoma County. The exact number fluctuates constantly, but you get the point. Thousands of good people are doing good things for other people, the environment and animals by raising billions of dollars annually for their programs.

  •  Refining Your Mission – Writing and improving a clear, simple, statement of why you exist, and merit support
  • Assessing Your Resources – Mapping internal and external factors
  • Board Development and Management -How to best build and utilize your Board
  • Identifying the Challenges – Step one in overcoming obstacles is recognizing them
  • Assessing Your Market Share - Identifying the competition and looking for collaboration
  • Evaluating Community Support – Looking deeper into who will join you and what they offer
  • Budgeting – Budgeting is tricky, but essential
  • Being Accountable – Building in the outcomes from the beginning and charting progress


The Presenters:

Daryl Reese - Daryl’s practice focuses on nonprofit law, business law, and civil litigation. As a former business leader and nonprofit executive, he brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding to the business needs of business entities and nonprofit organizations of all types.

 Fran Meininger - Fran has over 25 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, from volunteer coordinator to Executive Director, as well as membership on many boards, councils and commissions.

Charles (Chuck) Levine - Charles Levine was the President of the Board of Jack London Park Partners, when it created the first Operating Agreement to manage a California State Park.  In the eight years since JLPP began operating the Park, it has thrived.  Attendance has more than doubled.  The Park’s budget has increased by a factor of 4, yet the Park has consistently operates at break-even or with a surplus.  Volunteers in the Park have increased about 6-fold.  The Park is recognized by many as a model for public-private partnerships.
