About Our Speakers:

Susan Houghton 

Susan Houghton is a Certified Fundraising Professional (CFRE) and has more than 30 years of experience in public affairs, corporate and crisis communications and philanthropy. She began her career in journalism as a television reporter, but has also served in leadership and managerial roles at Safeway, Pacific Gas & Electric Company, Chevron, and Contel. Most of Susan’s career was spent with the University of California, first at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as Director of Public Affairs, and subsequently at UC Berkeley as Director of Development and Communications.

Susan has personally founded three nonprofit organizations, including Sunflower Hill, a Pleasanton-based organization creating residential and vocational options for individuals with special needs. Sunflower Hill was named Nonprofit of the Year in 2017 by Assemblywoman Catharine Baker, with the organization’s Irby Ranch project in Pleasanton being cited as the number one project in the state of California by the Tax Credit Allocation Committee. She has a BS degree in Journalism from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a MS degree in Nonprofit Administration from Louisiana State University.

 

Chris Carter

Chris Carter currently serves as Director of Development for the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center (LVPAC), where he oversees all fundraising activities. Prior to working for LVPAC, Chris served for eleven years as a leader in the development department at Saint Mary’s College of California. At Saint Mary’s College, Chris first served as the Director for Alumni relations, and subsequently as the Director for Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving. While working in higher education, Chris was a longtime member of CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) where he led and participated in multiple professional workshops focusing on volunteers and board management. Chris is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Livermore Rotary, while also volunteering for the Boy Scouts of America. His strengths include expertise in donor relations, annual giving, volunteer development, and fundraising programs. His interests include spending time with his family, playing guitar and golfing.

TVNPA Monthly Meetings are always open to the community at large at no cost.

There is no fee to attend TVNPA's monthly meetings. Membership in the alliance is not required to participate. Pre-registration is preferred, but not required! We encourage you to bring your colleagues. Simply add additional colleagues when you register for the event.
