This lecture will discuss the prevalence and causes of dysphoria during patient recovery from general anesthesia. We will review the stages of general inhalant anesthesia as experienced by our patients. Dysphoria will be defined and compared with emergence delirium, pain-associated behaviors, and stress-related agitation. We will also go through patient management strategies aimed at avoiding or treating the aforementioned post-anesthetic complications.
