The CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) is an observational instrument to assess quality in preschool Head Start classrooms. The CLASS assesses interactions between children and teachers in three broad domains of classroom quality: Emotional Support, Classroom Organization, and Instructional Support. The Office of Head Start believes that the domains of quality measured by the CLASS remain central to its approach to child development and education and serve as important indicators of the future school readiness of all Head Start children. The two days will focus on CLASS Observation Training with Reliability Assessment offered online.
Who should attend? Are you interested in learning how to observe classrooms using the CLASS? This training will guide you through the CLASS Observation tools and prepare you to become a reliable CLASS Observer in our two-day Pre-K CLASS Observation Training. This training is open to Education Managers, Curriculum Specialists, Master Teachers, and Program Directors in Head Start agencies, school districts, and other early childhood agencies that serve preschool age children. Important Note: Attendance is required for both days to be eligible for reliability testing.

Barbara Becker, Early Childhood Specialist, and Infant Toddler Specialist, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from UCLA and a Masters of Arts in Early Childhood Special Education from George Washington University. A former Head Start parent and award winning adult educator, Ms. Becker has extensive experience and passion for early literacy, family literacy and coaching. She has presented at local and national conferences. Her hallmark is one of collaborative team building with humor and a reflective, growth mindset approach.
