In the Line of Fire: Northern Forests Under Threat
with Dr. Brendan Rogers, Assistant Scientist
5:30pm: Wine & cheese reception in the Commons
6:00pm: Presentation in Harbourton Auditorium
Boreal forests cover a third of the planet's forested land and house an immense amount of carbon in their soils. These ancient forests have waxed and waned with the movement of ice sheets, but rarely faced the pace of environmental changes that exist today. Forest fires have been intensifying every year, with threats to human life and communities, animal habitats, and the climate system itself. Come learn about the importance of these Northern forests, which are increasingly in the direct line of fire from human-caused climate change.
