e2e Wyoming in Laramie welcomes the

Fisher Innovation Challenge Qualifiers

Join e2e Wyoming at the UW Gateway Center on January 25th, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. as the Fisher Innovation Challenge (FIC) qualifiers introduce their new companies to Laramie.  This will be a very special panel of creative and innovative Wyoming entrepreneurs.

The FIC was launched in spring 2016 as a new entrepreneurship competition focused on technology and innovation.  It was administered by the Wyoming Technology Business Center who seeks to catalyze Wyoming technology start-up businesses.  The FIC identified and stimulated the creation of new independent businesses in the seed, start-up, and early growth stages, and will provide the qualifying companies an opportunity to approach a $125,000 seed fund for working capital.

The FIC is supported and made possible through the generous financial gift of Mr. Donne Fisher, the School of Energy Resources, with administrative costs matched by the Office of Research and Economic Development at UW. Though inclusive to all University of Wyoming students, the FIC was done partnership with the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and had a specific focus towards business concepts with technical roots and innovation.  More than forty applications were received from UW student led teams, and over the course of the past year this field was narrowed to six qualifying teams.

Torre Roasts
Founder:  Emily Beagle: Second Year Ph.D., Mechanical Engineering
Concept:  Torre Roasts provides a foundation for coffee connoisseurs to improve their coffee experience by providing a home coffee roaster with sophisticated temperature control and roast profile specifications in an easy-to-use, sleek design. This roaster targets existing home roasters through improved control features and novice home roasters through user-friendly software and design features. Additionally, Torre roasts delivers other coffee products, including green coffee beans, specialty roasted coffee and fine coffee accessories.

Aktzin Systems
Founder:  Dakota Roberson: Fourth Year Ph.D., Electrical Engineering
Concept:  The smart power grid of the future is complicated by the addition of significant quantities of renewable power sources (e.g.. solar generators).  This is due to random, dramatic fluctuation in power output from such sources.  Aktzin Systems has developed complex control algorithms which couple to fast energy storage devices (batteries, flywheels, etc.), damping power fluctuations.  The result is a steady, dependable source available for dispatch at the grid operator’s discretion.

 Ullr Performance Parts
Founder:  Kyle Kuhn: First Year Masters, Mechanical Engineering
Concept:  In order to maximize performance of motorsports vehicles the power to weight ratio of the vehicle must be maximized. Ullr Performance Parts engineers and manufactures custom lightweight components to minimize vehicle weight. Advanced material systems combined with optimized designs are used to minimize weight in rotating systems and static systems alike. Ullr performance parts will launch by offering custom lightweight solutions for the snowmobile industry.

Resono Pressure Systems
Founder:  Pourya Nikoueeyan: Third Year Ph.D., Mechanical Engineering
Concept:  Software as a service and purchased hardware will provide an innovative way to measure unsteady pressure in the areas of Fluid Dynamics and Aerodynamics.  The software controls the data acquisition procedure and contains other unique features.  Target market is wind tunnel testing facilities and the automotive and aircraft industries.

Pralee Eggs & Hatchery
Founder:  Jaycey Lindsey: Senior, Animal Science Department
Concept:  Poultry breeding and supply company that focuses on helping large poultry farms convert to a cage free system and preserve their high levels of poultry production. Pralee supplies the tools and expertise needed to breed personal and commercial flocks of poultry at a higher efficiency than natural settings, cutting the cost and noise hassle of having to house male birds.
