Field Leader – Hiking
Halifax November 5-6, 2016
The Field Leader – Hiking course will be held on November 5 to 6 in Halifax at the Prospect Road Community Centre. This nationally recognized course will provide participants with Outdoor Council of Canada (OCC) training in Field Leader – Hiking as well as the skills to organize and lead others in a one day, educational or activity based experience in a natural environment. The program is suitable for hiking club leaders, trail group volunteers, recreation department staff, teachers, 4H leaders, Scout and Guide leaders, parents or individuals interested in leading hikes. The course will be delivered by Anjeanette LeMay-Crowtz, OCC certified instructor. It is offered through Hike Nova Scotia in partnership with the NS Chapter of the OCC and supported by the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage. Hike NS thanks its partner Halifax Parks and Recreation for its support.
To be hiking leaders, participants should have some hiking experience and be able to participate in a low risk natural environment hike on a designated trail while carrying what they will need for a day outside. Participants who successfully meet the course outcomes will earn Outdoor Council of Canada Field Leader – Hiking certification along with the necessary skills to be a confident hiking leader. Most of the instruction will be in the classroom with a final experiential lesson on the trail. Cancellation Policy
The Field Leader – Hiking Course is subsidized for participants, so we need to fill the workshop in order to break even. As such, our cancellation policy requires three full days’ notice in order to reimburse anyone who wishes to cancel their registration (so we require notice of cancellation by email or phone by 5 pm on November 1). This allows time to recruit someone to fill the spot.
If the course organizers must cancel the course due to unforeseen circumstance, it will be cancelled the morning of the day before the course. Participants will be contacted by email and all participants will be reimbursed their registration fees. They will then be contacted regarding a new date for the course.
Please complete one registration form per person.
Note that multiple people cannot use the same email address.
Thank you.
