Physically Distant-Still Connected: Designing Environments and Communication

for Independence and Engagement

with Lisa Kuh, Ph.D.

In a climate of remote learning and return to face to face learning guided by physical distancing, the environment we welcome students back to is more important than ever. In Part I participants will be introduced to ways to restructure classroom materials for independent, constructive use. We will explore the role of Compelling Materials and Explicit Presentations as anchors for engagement. In Part II, participants will have the opportunity to analyze teacher-student interactions, adopt a framework for strengths-based language that supports distanced learning, and consider how schedules and routines will need to shift. Finally we address family engagement, previewing, and preparing children for a new way of learning that is actually more personalized and intentional.

Fees: $30 for Non MAAEYC members and $20 for Members

Certificates for in-service hours are available.
