**Note: If you are seeking the 40-hour Basic Mediation Training Skills certificate, you must attend both Part 1 and Part II. This training meets the classroom requirement for certification through the Washington Mediation Association.

This 5-day training is a high-energy, high-quality synthesis of years of conflict resolution experience. 

The material will be presented through lecture, demonstration and large and small group exercises including simulated mediations. Many experienced mediators will act as presenters and individual coaches, which allows participants to experience many diverse styles of mediating.

Continuing Education/Recertification Credit/Clock Hours

Applications are pending for the following continuing education credits:

• HR (General)) recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute. Previous training approved for 33 HR General credits.
• Washington State Bar CLE Credit.  Previous training has been approved for 35.5 total hours including 2 Ethics Credits.
•   Washington State Clock Hours:  Previous training approved for 40 Credits

Registration Options

We are offering our Basic Mediation Training in two parts to accomodate trainees who may not be able to attend a full 40-hour training at one time.  However, immersion in the 40-hour training at one time is highly recommended.

Part I includes conflict theory and styles, active listening techniques, trust building, collaborative negotiations, and conflict management tools at home and in the workplace.

Part II focuses on the mediation process and the mediator’s role and ethics. It provides an interest-based and facilitative approach to conflict resolution that empowers people to resolve differences with the aid of skilled mediators.

Part I can be taken as a stand-alone course.

You must take Part I as a pre-requisite for Part II.

Trainees wishing to complete a 40-hour Basic Mediation Course, for certification or practicum purposes, must complete both Part I and Part II. 

To be eligible to receive a certificate of completion of  the 40-hour Basic Training, Trainees must complete Part I and Part II within a calendar year.

About the lead trainer:

Nancy Pionk, CMS Executive Director

Nancy is a certified mediator and an approved practicum supervisor with the Washington Mediation Association. Nancy has over ten years experience providing the Basic 40-hour Mediation Training. A mediator since 1996, Nancy has mediated many different types of cases including neighbor-to-neighbor, small claims, landlord/tenant, victim-offender, workplace, foreclosure, and police/citizen matters. She also helps design conflict resolution and communication trainings for other organizations. Nancy earned a B.A. from Eastern Michigan University and a J.D. from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law.

The regular fee for the full 40-hour training (Parts I and II) is $695. The nonprofit fee is:  $550. 

Early bird rate of $595 until February 6, 2015!

For Part I only, the fee is $300. The nonprofit fee is $240.

Early bird rate of $250 until February 6, 2015

For Part II only, the fee is $395.  The nonprofit fee is $310.

Early bird rate of $350 until February 6, 2015

There is an additional discount when 3 or more people from same organization register and for non-profit organizations.

Payment must be received prior to the day of the event to reserve your space and ensure adequate materials are available for all participants.  Unfortunately, we cannot accept payment on the day of the event.

Cancellation policy: For cancellations more than 10 days prior to the first date of training, we will refund your fee minus a 10% administrative fee. For cancellations 10 days or less prior to training, there is no refund.
