This seminar will cover what types of information is covered by which of these IP regimes, principles of ownership, transfer and license, how to protect by contract, written agreement and license, costs of obtaining registration and infringement, and steps to take to avoid infringement and strategies for maximizing protection while preserving scarce capital resources.

Some of the questions that will be answered by this seminar include:

  • Is computer software, mathematical formulas or expression of genetic code covered by copyright?
  • Who owns the intellectual property if you hire a contractor to develop materials and how is ownership transferred?
  • How do you know what materials you can use in order to avoid copyright infringement?
  • How does trademark differ from copyright and trade secrets?  How do you obtain a trademark in the U.S. and abroad?
  • If you have trade secrets, what steps other than non-disclosure agreements should you take to protect them?
  • What should you do if you get a cease and desist letter from someone?
