Course synopsis: An overview of Orofacial Pain introducing concepts that will help dentists recognize multiple types of nonodontogenic pain, improve effectiveness of TMD treatment, avoid iatrogenic treatment, and possibly save a life.

About the Speaker:

John Orsi D.D.S. is a 1983 UOP graduate that has a private dental practice in Sacramento California. For the first fifteen years of practice he was also was on staff at Sutter General Hospital where he treated dental emergencies in the emergency room. He is a past president and peer review chairman of the Sacramento District Dental Society (SDDS). Dr. Orsi has been involved with The Pankey Institute since 1991. In 2005 he published the book, Beyond the Standard of Care / Applying the Pankey Philosophy, which teaches dentists how to be better dentists. From 2006-7, he completed both a one-year surgical and prosthetic training program in Detroit with Dr. Carl Misch. He has been a visiting faculty member of The Pankey Institute since 2007. In 2011-12 Dr. Orsi received advanced training through mini-residencies in both Sleep Medicine at UCLA and Orofacial pain at both UCLA and Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, New Jersey. In 2013 he completed a one-year preceptor in the Orofacial Pain program at UCLA Dental School while maintaining his private practice in Sacramento. After finishing the UCLA program, he successfully passed the two-year board certification process in orofacial pain. He is a guest lecturer and clinical floor instructor for the UCLA graduate program in orofacial pain. He has a passion for treating patients and teaching that involves interdisciplinary and complex care.
