Better Marriages NC Weekend Getaway 2019 

Join us to Reach New Heights at this marriage enrichment experience in western North Carolina!

Attend workshops designed to help you meet the challenges that every marriage faces so that you can move onward and upward together. In the afternoon, soak up the timeless energy of the mountains together during the exclusive couples time. Then dine, dance, and connect with other couples while we "Play Some Mountain Music."

"Hatfields & McCoys", Family of Origin Issues

Cleve and Joy serve on both Better Marriages of Georgia and Better Marriages National Boards. They are a Certified Leader Couple for Better Marriages.  They are currently President Couple for Better Marriages of Georgia.   Cleve and Joy have two adult daughters and three outstanding Grand Boys.  Joy is a retired educator-early elementary education; Adult ESOL educator. Cleve is a retired corporate Training Director.  Cleve's first career was Director of Pastoral Care, West Georgia Medical Center, LaGrange, Georgia.  Fun time is spent in nature, boating and robust cheering for the GBoys at basketball games and soccer matches! Additionally, "GO DAWGS"! Additionally, "GO DUKE!"

 


Carl and Nancy Terry
President Couple
Workshop: "Don't Fall Over The Edge", Handling Conflict

Carl and Nancy have been married for 44 years and have been members of “Better Marriages” almost from the beginning of their marriage. They have been a certified leader couple for over 40 years. They have been President Couple of the National Board and currently serve as President couple for Better Marriages NC. Together they are Seminar Directors for Prepare/Enrich, an online assessment for  premarital and married couples and train clergy and counselors to use this assessment with other couples.

Carl has an M.S. in Applied Psychology. Nancy has an M.S. in Social work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. They live in Raleigh and are active with two MEG’s (Marriage Enrichment Groups) there.

 

Jim and Kathy Weidner
Workshop: "Shout it from the Mountaintop", Expressing Gratitude and How Much You Care.

Jim and Kathy Weidner have been married for 18 years. They live in Charlotte, North Carolina. They joined Better Marriages soon after the honeymoon! Forming a blended marriage, with 3 teenagers,  they understood the value of this organization to support good marriages grow stronger! After attending their first NC ACME Conference, they were asked to serve on the NC State Board. Since then they have served in several positions including president Couple. Jim and Kathy look forward to leading their breakout session in Montreat in April.

 

Bill and Linda McConahey
Workshop: "Babbling Brook",  Mirroring Communication, Maintaining

Drs. Bill and Linda McConahey are the owners of Mindful Connections Coaching, a relationship coaching business.  They work with couples and singles and offer individual and group coaching, relationship evaluations, seminars and workshops.

The McConaheys have worked with singles and couples for over 30 years.  They are Better Marriages Leaders, Trainers and Supervisors, having presented hundreds of seminars and retreats.  In addition they are PREPARE/ENRICH Facilitators, Marriage Mentors and Seminar Directors and Couple Communication Leaders and Trainers.  Both are Certified Singles and Couples Relationship Coaches.

Bill is a retired Emergency Medicine Physician, initially trained in Internal Medicine, and has also practiced Addiction Medicine and worked at community free health clinics.  He is currently the Director of the Wound Care Center for Danville Regional Medical Center.  Linda is a retired Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience in Couples and Family Therapy.

The McConaheys have been married 51 years and are the parents of two children and grandparents of three girls.  They live in Pelham, NC.  When not working with singles and couples they spend time outside in the country on 16 acres that they share with their 2 dogs.  For other recreation they enjoy scuba diving, dancing and gardening.


Julia and Reginald McClain
Workshop: "Mining In The Mountains", Finding New Gold in Your Relationship

Reginald and Julia McClain celebrated 22 years of marriage in September 2018. In October 2015, the McClains became a Trained Better Marriages Leader Couple. They and they are working toward full certification. 

They have conducted a workshop and a retreat on the topics “Managing Time for a Healthy Marriage” and a “Road Less Traveled” to encourage and engage married couples.

They have been members of Better Marriages for five years. Reginald is a Maintenance Engineer with Lincoln Harris and Julia is a Business Services Coordinator at NC State University (Raleigh, NC)

 

 
Laura and Tom Spangler
Workshop: "Erosion", Don't Let Boredom Creep In

Tom and Laura have been married for 33 years.  They live in Winston Salem, NC where they raised 4 children and now delight in 2 grandchildren. Tom is an orthopedic surgeon and Laura is a Presbyterian pastor.  Together they enjoy many different missions, sports and hobbies.

Accommodations at Montreat Conference Center

Better Marriages of North Carolina has arranged to make available a limited number of private rooms at the Assembly Inn at the Montreat Conference Center. Enjoy the convenience of staying at the conference location.

Please note: space is limited to the first 40 registrants, and this two-night onsite accommodation is only guaranteed to be available through March 15, 2019. Single night accommodations are not available.

Cost of Two-night Stay per Couple: $215.00
