The Utilization of Canines in Clinical Practice

Synopsis: This presentation will provide an introduction for integrating canines into clinical practice with a focus on the empirical support and clinical applications. Dr. Mayer will differentiate types of working dogs, provide clarity on clinician responsibility and decision making when prescribing emotional support dogs, discuss how to appropriately incorporate canines into evidence-based psychotherapy practices, and explain the paradigm behind the success of canine-assisted therapy practices. Common implementation concerns will also be addressed.
