SBC Strive Towards Sustainability (STS) Workshop

The truly sustainable path for any business includes a business plan built upon equitable labor practices, ethical profits, and responsible use of natural resources. The SBC recognizes that getting a business on this path takes commitment, vision and, at times, resources.  Therefore, the Strive Towards Sustainability (STS) program was developed as a way to provide education, recognition, and networking support to member businesses while also providing Missoula-area consumers a guided standard.

The STS program is a graduated recognition program structured to identify organizations that are demonstrating a serious commitment and progression toward eco-friendly business practices. It is strictly voluntary; there are no regulatory components.

The workshop is being offered to both SBC members and interested non-members. There will be space for 20 participants. Reservations are accepted on a first come first served basis.

At the workshop participants will interact with other business owners, board members, and employees and together:

  • Hear the business case for sustainability and get a short "sustainability 101" course
  • Complete a comprehensive sustainability assessment questionnaire
  • Develop a sustainability priority area and set a goal in that area for the upcoming year
  • Identify barriers to pursuing sustainability and ways to overcome them
  • Become eligible to participate in the STS recognition program and hear about the follow-up and goal-setting process that the program entails

For SBC members:

  • Individual: may attend for $40
  • Basic: 2 stakeholders* may attend free of charge**
  • Sponsor I: 4 stakeholders may attend free of charge
  • Sponsor II: 6 stakeholders may attend free of charge
  • Sponsor III: 10 stakeholders may attend free of charge
  • Sponsor IV: 20 stakeholders may attend free of charge

* A stakeholder is defined as an employee/owner/board member/investor

** Members may send additional stakeholders for $40/person

 For non members: $50/person

Another STS workshop is slated for Tuesday March 13th 2011.
