Overall Forum Objectives:

Upon completion of the Forum the participant will be able to: 

  • Describe emerging multidisciplinary roles in oral health and dentistry.
  • Discuss emerging trends in preventative and restorative dental services.
  • Understand NH Medicaid oral health and dental policy changes.
  • Describe opportunities for community based oral health and dental services provided outside of the traditional dental office.
  • Recognize potential improved clinical outcomes related to increased communication and referral between medical and dental providers.

Keynote presentation:  A Profession in Transition – What Every Dentist Needs to Know about Tomorrow’s Practice Environment Marko Vujicic, PhD, Managing Vice President, Health Policy Resource Center, American Dental Association. 

  • Describe trends and significant shifts in dental care over the past decade.
  • Identify key drivers moving these trends.
  • Discuss policies to begin to address critical access to dental care within tomorrow’s health care environment. 

Presentation:  NH 1115 Medicaid Waiver, and Oral Health during Pregnancy: A National Consensus Statement, Margaret Snow, DMD, MBA, MPH, Dental Director, Office of Medicaid Business and Policy.  New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services.

  • Describe new oral health and dental services proposed in New Hampshire 1115 Waiver for pregnant women.
  • Discuss the challenges delivering care to this target population.
  • State the key recommendations in Oral Health during Pregnancy: A National Consensus Statement from the National Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center.

NH Dental Society Workshop Lunch with Marko Vujicic, PhD:

  • Discuss potential practice changes that reflect the empirical evidence presented by the ADA speaker.

Invitational lunch with Hugh Silk, MD:

  • Increase knowledge on the key components of implementing preventative oral health services in the medical setting.

  • Understand the impact of Primary Care Medicine on prevention and management of child and adult dental disease.
  • Describe models of Medical-Dental Integration.
  • State the critical role of primary care in the delivery of and referral to oral health care services.

Dr. Marko Vujicic is Managing Vice President, Health Policy Resources Center at the American Dental Association where he is responsible for overseeing all of the Association’s policy research activities. Prior to joining the American Dental Association (ADA), he was Senior Economist with The World Bank in Washington D.C. where he directed the global health workforce policy program, which focuses on addressing the numerous human resources for health challenges in developing countries. Previously, he was Health Economist with the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. 

Margaret M. Snow, DMD, MBA, MPH has been the Dental Director of the Office of Medicaid Business and Policy in New Hampshire’s Department of Health and Human Services since 2003. Her primary role is to ensure access to care for Medicaid enrolled children and adults, and provide support to Public Health State Oral Health Programs. 



Dr. Silk is Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine & Community Health, University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester, MA. He encourages physicians to develop relationships with dentists in their community and systems for sharing concerns about patients' health with them. He is co-author of the award winning national curriculum on oral health for family medicine, entitled "Smiles for Life."
