Cheryl Abla – McREL International

Cheryl assists teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders to increase student achievement through the use of research– and evidence-based instructional strategies. Cheryl is an expert on instructional strategies and coaching, use of technology for learning, positive school culture and climate, and supporting English language learners. Prior to joining McREL, Cheryl taught grades 1-12 for more than 20 years, and served as a national facilitator for a character education program. Her enthusiasm for learning, coupled with her extensive and diverse classroom experience, ensures that workshop participants walk away with practical ideas that can be immediately put to use in their schools.

Tools for Classroom Instruction That Works: Classroom-Ready Techniques for Increasing Student Achievement  

June 13-14, 2018

Denver, CO

Aligned with McREL’s renowned Classroom Instruction That Works strategies and framework, this two-day workshop will deliver an intensive learning, working, and planning session for classroom teachers, instructional coaches, teacher mentors, principals and assistant principals, and central office PD leaders. Participants will also receive extended virtual coaching during 2018-19 school year.

This workshop will help participants raise student achievement in the classroom by focusing on crafting dynamic learning activities supported by the best research on effective instruction. Participants will gain valuable insights and practical tools and strategies for delivering engaging instruction that makes a difference in students’ learning.   

All participants will receive a copy of the book Tools for Classroom Instruction That Works, co-written and co-published by Thoughtful Classroom and McREL.

In this workshop, participants will learn:

  • Nine categories of instructional strategies that research shows have the strongest connections to  higher levels of student learning and success.
  • Practical classroom tools and activities that are aligned to and supported by each of the nine  instructional strategies.
  • Specific strategies and tools that create a classroom environment for learning that allows students to flourish.
  • Specific strategies and tools that help students develop understanding of new content and concepts.
  • Specific strategies and tools that help students extend and apply their new knowledge to other situations and challenges.
  • Tech tools participants can use in the classroom to promote engaging and meaningful learning.

Registration fee:

$399 per person. Includes 2-day workshop and extended virtual coaching, a copy of the newly published Tools for Classroom Instruction That Works book, plus lunch and refreshments.
