Topic: The COIN: A Simple Way to Produce a Future-State Design Quickly with a High Degree of Clarity and SME Engagement
Join us for a "how to" presentation by Chuck Boudreau as he shares with us his innovation that has become one of his preferred agile design methods for future-state design ideation.
In this session, you will learn how to quickly and easily produce a Circle of Interaction (COIN). This agile design method engages subject matter experts (SMEs) to design an envisioned future-state process on a whiteboard.
The problem that the COIN solves is a familiar one to business analysts: When trying to describe an envisioned future-state business process, the de facto standard is some kind of a business process diagram (BPD) comprised of swim lanes, lines and boxes.
While a BPD provides clarity, the rigor and drudgery required to produce this level of detail often comes at a cost: a loss of overall work-effort velocity and a markedly decreased level of engagement and enthusiasm by subject matter experts (SMEs).
The COIN provides a faster and equally effective way to design a future-state process that:
- Visualizes the future-state process on a single page
- Typically takes only hours to produce, even for moderately complex processes
- Highly engages the SMEs in the future-state design sessions
- Clearly communicates to business stakeholders who need to vet the future-state process
- Can be used, if desired, as an intermediate work product to produce a full BPD
Chuck helps organizations design and improve processes quickly and collaboratively using agile design methods. A self-described "Millennial in a fifty-something-year-old body", he collaborates with business leaders and subject matter experts to design cross-functional, enterprise-caliber business processes.
