Spruce Run is hosting "Bangor Walks to End Abuse” on October 24th as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Join us and other members of the community as we walk a loop around downtown to raise awareness about domestic abuse. We are inviting all members of the greater Bangor community to walk together in support of survivors, to remember those who have been lost and make a statement that we will not tolerate abuse in our community.
11:00 pm -12pm | Gather at West Market Square
Come get your purple! Purple is our awareness color so we envision a sea of purple walking around town. We'll be giving out free purple balloons, purple ribbon temporary tattoos, purple ribbon stickers and more. We're even giving out Free purple T-shirts to those who register for the walk.
Bring your kids for the Hands are Not for Hurting Activity, which focuses on engaging young children in becoming a part of a healthy community. Children are asked to trace their hands on a banner and pledge that they will not use their hands to hurt others. The banner will then be carried during this walk.
Show your support of Spruce Run and our mission to end abuse in our community. We are encouraging everyone to bring your company or school signs/banners, etc. and help us make this a successful event that demonstrates our community's commitment to raising awareness and ending abuse.
12:00 pm | We walk!
Participants should be ready to walk shortly after noon.Walkers will begin to make their way down Main Street and will follow the flow of traffic up Hammond, onto Harlow, turning onto Main Street, walking up to Water Street and Back down Main to West Market Square. This is a half mile walk.
A short remembrance ceremony will begin upon our return. Candles will be lit to honor those who have lost their lives due to domestic violence. Speakers from Spruce Run and the community will focus on affirming their commitment to ending abuse.
Don't forget your lunch! Registered participants can pick up their bag lunch immediately following the ceremony. The Darling's Ice Cream Truck will also be on hand with some very tasty treats. This event is projected to end at 1:30pm.
