He has published more than 40 technical papers and abstracts and done work in more than 21 countries and 26 states, and was the senior editor of Geology of the Cities of the World Special Publication 29 – Geology of Sacramento.  Along the way he has been Chair of the Sacramento Section of Association of Engineering and Environmental Geologists and also sat on the board of directors of AEG.  He has represented AEG as a lobbyist for the geotechnical profession on both state and federal levels.

Speaker Abstract:

Andros Island is the largest island in the Bahamian archipelago but is also has the lowest population density of any of the islands.  Hence, the fresh-water lens of the island has been mined for decades to provide drinking water for Nassau/Paradise Island, the countries center of political power.  A unique method of groundwater mining has been perfected over the years to provide potable (by Bahamian standards) water to Paradise Island, which has over pumped it’s groundwater resources and must now rely on precipitation catch basins and daily shipments of water from Andros Island to support the local population and the tourist trade.
